Tea, puppies, mountains and smiles are a few of my favourite things. I truly believe that fresh air and quality conversation can heal almost anything. So I fill my life with these two staples on a daily basis.
Although I am currently working as a Medical Laboratory Assistant my real passion falls within the event management sector, especially when it comes to non-profit work. I am a member of the Beaver Valley Lions Club, who were also my amazing pageant sponsors, as well as a Local Chapter Leader and Intern with a phenomenal organisation called I AM THAT GIRL (IATG). IATG strives to turn self-doubt into self-love and encourage collaboration over competition between women. That was one of my favourite parts of the Miss BC Pageant week, the amount of collaboration and support for one another that came from each girl.
The Miss BC Program taught me so much. The greatest lesson was a self-discovery truly captured by Alexis Jones’ quote:
- “I’m going to let you in on a secret; you’re probably so much smarter, cooler, braver, more interesting and admired than you think you are.”
Pageant weekend really reminded me of my strength, courage and passion for changing the world and being authentically myself. To walk away as Miss BC Interior for 2016 – 2017 was a great reminder to give myself the benefit of the doubt more often.
This year I hope to bring awareness to multiple different issues we as a society face today, including domestic violence and the stigma surrounding mental health. I also hope to showcase that programs such as the Miss BC programs are life changing and not what a lot of people think they are … beauty-based. I hope to remind people that it doesn’t matter where you came from but how hard you work toward your dreams that counts and we are all enough exactly as we are despite what others may tell us.
I am so excited for the year to come and to represent the Interior. I hope you will all follow along in my journey and I thank each and every person who has supported me thus far.
